Reviews of Caribbean High

Five star review from amazon.com
By Helayne

Gary has been a sailor since his teenage years and brings his knowledge of sailing to life in this very well written fictional thriller. It was enjoyable to read because it was easy to visualize every scene in detail. Caribbean High's sea-going chases, trekking through island jungles, and lustful encounters keeps the reader begging for more. I was sad to finish the book and am looking forward to reading his next one. Kudos to Gary!

Vicki Remoundos Jerlinski:  I am honest and so I will say this....It takes me a while to get into most books. They have to capture me from the beginning. I learned late in life that I have a slight attention deficit so keeping my attention is difficult, especially with the beginning of most books.

Your book Caribbean High did capture my attention in the beginning. There were times that you lost me with the sailing terminology but that didn't stop me from continuing mainly because of your story plot which was fun, exciting, and was very well written. With most books, I would have closed the cover and walked away but with yours I kept going because I truly wanted to know what the next part of the adventure would be.

To sum it up, I truly admire people with imagination but to take that imagination, combine it with learned experience, put it into the written word as vividly as what you are seeing, and then to share this with the world is amazing. I give you two thumbs up for your book which kept me reading as well as dipping my feet into the world of sailing. Thank you!

More kick than a triple-rum Pina Colada!
A modern-day swash-buckler with loveable rogues and blinding imagery. I can see a film in this book, and Someone should snap up the movie rights. Wonderful detail in the sailing scenes that will grip the non-sailor and bring nods of approval from "old salts". Novel chases and cunning plans; escapes and escapades; really bad baddies; sun, sex and rum. First class holiday reading! Or any time at all if you want to step into a Caribbean High ...

When it comes to sailing inkslingers, Gary E. Brown is among the best. He's the voice of experience, and he's got the bar room bruises and ocean miles to prove it. Want a peek at the underbelly of paradise? Here it is. Caribbean High is an exciting, thrill-a-page waterfront yarn. – Cap’n Fatty Goodlander, Editor-at-Large of Cruising World, and author of Chasing the Horizon & Red Sea Run.

Alain Barras - I just put the mainsail up this morning and we are going sailing this weekend ... It's been a long time and I had to look to my sailing books and I found that the best of all is yours.

Duane Bunch - I can honestly say I haven't read a book in years. Finished yours in 2 days. It brought back a lot of memories. I loved the DJ ref. about Bogart and the lost piece of paper about the weather report, made me laugh. He was always doing that.

Tony Brewer - So is it Gary Cussler or Tom Brown Clancy? That was a rip snorter my friend. Looking forward to the next one. How come everybody hasn't read it?

Tadzio Bervoets - I finished Caribbean High the other day after two days of sleepless nights because I couldn’t put it down (I planned it around last weekend's stormy weather). An instant classic! It was great to notice so many familiar things in the story and to get the message. I found it reminded me of Conrad, Ludlum, Fleming, Hemingway with good ole island style mixed in. I would like you to sign my copy if possible!

Caribbean High Gets High Marks!
Caribbean High is an excellent fast-paced, intricately detailed adventure story with twists and turns throughout. The writing is smooth and logical with NO slow spots - you've got to be on top of your game to keep up. TRUST THIS REVIEW... the "Modern Action Novel" that follows in the wake of Ian Fleming has brought great writers and even greater protagonist/hero's such as Clive Cussler's Dirk Pitt, Ted Bell's Alexander Hawke, Richard Marcinko's Rogue Warrior, W.E.B. Griffin's Presidential Agent and of course Jack Higgins' Sean Dillon. If you enjoy any of these writers, you will definitely love Caribbean High. The author Gary Brown is in fact a sailor who lives in the Caribbean and clearly had his share of experiences - which make this book rich with real life detail. If art imitates life, then Gary Brown has laid the blueprint with Caribbean High. Give it a try, I promise you will not be disappointed!

It is as if James Bond becomes a Sea Gypsy and retires to the Caribbean! Packed with humorous ribald partying, a wide assortment of corruption and evil, strong and lasting friendships with love lost, and a frightening tropical storm, Gary Brown's novel is a perfect way to dig your feet into the sand, fill a bucket with cold beers, and read. Or position your favorite reading chair near the fireplace where ever you live, and dream of the Caribbean.

Loved It!

"Caribbean High" is a rollicking good book; perfect for summer or the beach. The sailing sequences were clearly written by a sailor, which makes them all the more pleasurable to read. The suspense, deftly interspersed with humor, keeps you on tenterhooks to the end. All in all, an action-packed, thoroughly enjoyable, read.

Exhausted!

What an exciting read, a real page turner! Sailor or not you are going to enjoy this fast paced adventure. The author obviously knows the Caribbean, you have to wonder how much of this is autobiographical, if it is this guy has certainly led an interesting life! Hope these characters are set to appear again, I for one, will be looking for a sequel. Thoroughly enjoyed it.
